A diner from Hamden, CT

A truly disappointing experience. My partner and I have dined at Foe on many occasions (including at the old location) and always enjoyed it. But last night's experience was so unpleasant, we have decided not to return. Our waiter was charming, well-informed and professional. But the grilled salmon we both ordered as entrees had a strong, fishy odor and an increasingly unpleasant taste the more we consumed. I ate less than 10% of mine and my partner who was hungry and a faster eater, consumed about 50% of his before we sent our meals back to the kitchen. I ordered from the prix fixe menu but ate no dessert because we wished to leave after being served such foul smelling/tasting entrees. The manager decided to only issue a credit for the value of the salmon (not the unordered dessert) and he refused to credit back any portion of the price of my partner's salmon, claiming he had already consumed 90% of it. I told the manager it was bad form to argue with a customer but if he chose to do so, I would dispute the charge with Amex (and I will), tell my friends and colleagues about my unhappy experience (and I will) and not come back to the restaurant (and I won't). In a fine dining establishment, I would not expect to be "nickel and dimed" by the manager. He should have apologized and credited back both entrees as well as the unordered dessert without the slightest question. Instead, he wound up antagonizing me and lost a customer in the process. Next time we dine in Branford, it will be at Assaggio, Le Petit or Lenny's or Dalton's in North Branford.
