Dim lighting, blaring jazz music on Thursdays, and a mixture New Orlean's favorites. Welcome to Flavor. Flavor is located in Flossmoor, Illinois in a strip mall. The inside is small, fitting forty to fifty people. The size is hardly noticeable with the numerous paintings decorating the walls, however. All are available for purchase.

Flavor specializes in Cajun and gumbo cooking. It spares no mercy for those who dislike hot food. Nearly every dinner on the menu is spicy and will have you reaching for a glass of water. Flavor also offers a variety of different martinis. All are specially mixed right in the restaurant.

Flavor's menu includes a variety of dishes, including chicken, streak, salmon, and crab stuffed shrimp. Most dinners also include a soup or salad. The prices are a little steep with the least expensive dinner at $10.95, without a drink. I ordered the best seller, the Jerk Chicken. The Jerk Chicken contains boned chicken, jerk sauce on the side, Jamaican rice and beans and fresh vegetables. I also received a salad with my dinner which came almost immediately after I ordered. The salad was mostly greens and iceberg lettuce, with my choice of dressings. Despite the short amount of time between my order and the salad, it tasted fresh. It was like it had been freshly prepared for me and not sitting out, waiting for a customer.
The chicken came about fifteen minutes after I received my salad. The portions were smaller than I imagined, with each piece the size of my palm. The chicken was not marked as spicy, but still had a little bite to it. I found it difficult to eat without constantly reaching for my water. The vegetables, which was simply broccoli, was delicious, crunchy and full of flavor. I am told that the vegetables are all grown by the restaurant itself. The Jamaican rice was the most disappointing. I pushed it aside after one or two bites, not impressed with its dull flavor. If you choose the Jerk Chicken, I would recommend trying to substitute it for something more appetizing. In all, my meal cost $17.95, without any drink.

To finish off the meal, there are several different desserts available. The most famous dessert is the Jack Daniel's Brownie, a brownie smothered in Jack Daniels sauce with cranberries and peaches. There is also a peach cobbler, puddings, Sorbets, and Key Lime Pie. I did not get dessert, but tasted the Bananas Foster Banana Pudding. The pudding was incredibly creamy and came with a vanilla wafer. Desserts prices are $4.95 for a half and $6.95 for a full. All desserts are made by hand, so size may vary.

Flavor is also available for breakfast. Meals include eggs, pancakes and omelets. Most of the meals come with bacon and sausage patties. Omelets can be made into scrambled eggs at your request. Breakfast meals are cheaper, with prices ranging from $6.20 to $8.15.

If you're looking for a good place for Cajun food and entertainment, Flavor is the place to go. Flavor's Thursday jazz sessions are pleasurable to watch while eating, but with small food portions and a high price, Flavor seasons your wallet heavily and should be avoided except for special occasions.
