My wife and I went to Dixie Café on May 10, 2002 in the early evening. The Café was extremely busy. However, they seemed to be handling the crowd very well. I put in our name and request for nonsmoking. We had to wait about 5 minutes before we were seated at a booth. We looked through the menus. The manager showed up to take our drink order since our waitress was busy. He retrieved our drinks, one coke and one sweet ea. Within a couple of minutes our waitress J. arrives to take our order. We both ordered the chicken fried steak ($7.29). I didn’t time how long it took our order to arrive but it wasn’t long. The food arrived and we received what we ordered. Along with two rolls and two cornbread muffins, also as requested. However, the rolls were still raw in the middle. The cornbread is jalapeno cornbread and wasn’t very warm.

At Dixie Café you get your choice of side vegetable and they come in little bowls not on your plate. The side items were lukewarm at best. Thus I had cold mashed potatoes and green beans just a few minutes into the meal. The chicken fried steak itself was good. The manager and waitress did stop by early in the meal to check on us. However, it was the "drive-by-shooting" type. Then they were gone forever it seemed.

We had to wait for the waitress to show up so that we could get our check and leave. The bus boy came by while we waiting on the check and without a word snatched our plates. The total bill with drinks, meal, and tax came to $18.29. Too much, in my mind, for what we received.

I would say enter the Dixie Café with caution.
