Restaurant Description

Dewz Restaurant specializes in new America cuisine with great influences from France and Asia. From the outstanding recipes of executive chef Vincent Alvorado, and the great ideas of Judy and Scott Aspesi, Dewz has become a well known dining place in the Central Valley. It has a great bar and two main dining rooms serving good, fresh food in ample portions. The wine list at Dewz is the real highlight: the selection from around the world is outstanding, with regions all over the world represented, which is a real bonus for a casual place like this.

My wife and I had an Anniversary dinner here on 2-11-09. We've been here before on several ocasions and have always had wonderful service and terrific food. The menu is typical American cuisine and the prices are slightly above average for a steak with sides.

We had calimari for our starter. There isn't a better made calimari anywhere in the city. Excellent. I had a NY steak, and wife had a Filet Mignon with a lobster bisque soup that was wonderful. They have quite a wine selection, but we're not wine drinkers. Overall a wonderful experience in one of the nicest restaurants in towm. 5 Stars! Bob & Denise

We arrived at Dewz for New Years Eve dinner and found the tables a bit close together for a party of six. The wine list was exceptional and diverse, one of the best in the valley, with California and the world well represented in their cellar. Pricing was off the mark on the high end cabs and reserves. On a bottle of BV's Private Reserve Georges De Latour (2000) menu price was $450. All bottles seemed to have a standard mark-up three to four time’s retail price. This is normal for lower price point wines, but extreme on the higher price point wines. I assume they are selling to nieve patrons or they are trying to keep these bottles for themselves.
The menu was well assembled with appetizers that were all prepared very well with unique flavors. Main course was made up of typical array of proteins, salmon, filet mignon, prime rib, roast chicken, lobster. The fish was cooked perfect, with large portions. The filet mignon was so over cooked that it resembled pot roast with sweet truffle sauce that was overpowered with port and hid the subtle flavors of the truffle. The filet had lost all juices as it looked slow cooked or kept on a warmer, very disappointing. Desert course was prepared to perfection and very creative with a triad of deserts on a single plate to be shared with your date. Meyer’s lemons were used to prepare a lemon meringue and brought a clean crisp low acid explosion of flavor. Very good.
Overall, a good experience with a confident and professional staff willing to meet all your needs. The dish preparation is too inconsistent for the price.

We absolutely have loved Dewz from the beginning. We rarely eat out, as our budget doesn't allow it. So about twice per year we splurge on Dewz and are never disappointed. They've always treated us like royalty, and the ambience and food are superb, even at the "new" location.

My wife and I had dinner at Dews on August 21 to celebrate out 26th wedding anniversary. We had been to Dews several times at their previous location, but this was the first time since they moved. We liked the new location better, as well as the decor, service, and food. Everything was better (and it was always very good before). Dews is one of Modesto's finest restaurants.

I'm not a Modestan and keep searching for a "good" restaurant. I've been assured that Dewz is it. Well, I tried their lunch, a turkey sandwich - salty, soft mystery meat. Okay, so I tried the apple crisp. Mushy apples, mushy topping. If you are depending on a quality if not gourmet reputation, why would you serve packaged lunch meat? I've not dared to try one of their expensive dinners. I guess my expectatons are different than the locals'.

Three friends and I showed up for some drinks and dinner. The restaurant said they had no tables available, so we ate appetizers and had drinks in the "lobby/bar". Stayed for over an hour- and approximately 10 table were still open in the dining area by the time we left. What a joke!

Terribly inattentive service for our lunch party of 6 at 11:55AM on Saturday with just 3 other tables occupied. Food ranged from very good (seafood pasta) to good(cobb salad) to fair(blackened snapper sandwich, with 6 bones in it)
$10.25/glass for Turkey Flat Rose? Retail $12 wine. Obscene markup on the only rose offered by the glass. This is my 5th time here and service has never been consistently good but today was flat poor. I am done with this place. Too many better choices (Bachus,Claytons, Tressetti's) etc

We recently booked Dewz for a surprise dinner party for 23 persons, we had eight choices from the menu for this large group, food was excellent and the service even better! We had a lead wait person who was an absolute professional and other wait staff were prompt and extremely courteous. Heartily recommended for an excellent dining experience!

I took my boyfriend to Dewz yesterday and we had a terrible experience. We had to wait 15 mins for a table to be cleaned that was empty when we walked in. After being seated it was 10 minutes before the waitress asked us what we would like to drink. I ordered wine that came within minutes but my guest ordered wine that they could not find. They spent 30-40 mins looking for this wine. When they finally found it the bartender brought it over and it was not the right year. She got an attitude because we did not want the wine since it was not the correct year. She stalked off and we never heard from her again.
Two years ago this restaurant refused to allow me to make a reservation for myself since I wanted a table for one on New Years Eve.

My husband and I have had dinner twice at Dewz, and both experiences were pretty great. The first time there was a delay getting our entrees out, so they comped us each a glass of the very nice wine we were drinking. The last visit (2 days ago), we were in a draft from the A/C and they moved us and turned it down. My husbands fish had the wrong sauce on it, so they told him to enjoy that dish while the chef fixed him a new entree. We ordered a glass of wine and the waitress poured us a little more than half a glass to empty the bottle, stating that she'd be right back to "top it off." She returned to let us know that was the last bottle of that particular wine, then comped us a glass of an even finer wine. My water glass was never more than half empty before someone was there to refill it, the food was awesome, and the waitress knowledgable and friendly. We can't recommend it enough!!
