My mother and I were traveling home to St. Louis and decided to try Blue Springs Cafe because of the billboards along the highway stating it was on Food Network. When we arrived the place was dirty. It was prime rib buffet night. Neither my mother nor I are buffet people, but in the spirit of trying something new we decided to give it a try. Everyone else in the place was at least 300 pounds, so it could be too bad. We were wrong. As I stood inspecting the buffet I was reminded of the scene in Chevy Chase's Vegas Vacation when Clark and his brother are standing in line at the buffet and it is either blue or yellow. The food at this place was very similar. You couldn't tell what was what and the strip steak had a fishy taste. The only edible item was the turkey which was sitting in salty gravy. Our drink cups were chipped at the rim and every plate in was wet. After a very light dinner, we order a piece of the pie. It was one of the "famous" mile high pies. The pie consisted of 5 inches of meringue and a half inch of actual pie filling. Needless to say it was very disappointing. Finally, our experience was over (or so we thought). We went to the counter to pay and were then informed they do not accept credit or debit cards, only person checks and cash. Who takes personal checks these days? Evidentially we found the one place! We had a mail in a personal check once we were home. I strongly do not recommend this place. For two people to eat, a tea and coke and one piece of pie it was almost $50.00. The reminder of our drive home was filled with bathroom stops as the little bit of the food we ate make us sick. Please save yourself the time and money and just pass this place up.
