This place is not what it used to be, I ve been coming here for 20 years.Quality of the steaks have become poor, not cooked correctly, poor cuts and Price on the steak have gone up and not worth what you get for service and ambiance. You can tell they are cutting corners. Our most recent visit which is also on par for the last visits in the last year go along with my most current review. So our some what quiet evening was interrupted by karaoke which is very weird when your paying 24$ per person. The same old family vibe is gone since the new owners have taken over.
The new decor is tacky with zebra print bar stools, changed lighting, the removal of the nice big leather chairs amongst other things (karaoke). It is VERY TACKY. Other commentators will say this place now is on par with the top Chicago steak houses. That s not even a comparison and not even fair at that. Its like comparing apples and oranges, they re both fruit but they aren t the same.
Our server smelled of smoke because we saw them smoking outside before they had served us, among other servers outside working(gross in my opinion). We were there for over 3 hours and the server tried to get a double tip on our party of 12. The tip is included on parties of 8 or more they say on their menu/this is what the waitress informed us, but then they hide it in the total to get you to tip more.(The double tip thing is not the first time this happened and it seems they keep the employees that do this, the first time it happened last Christmas party I brought in for my company the young brunette waitress tried pulling this off on us, the new owners look like they promoted her to hostess from our last and final visit. This place has gone down hill and I ve been coming here for about 20 years.
The Steak Pit was once one of my favorite places to come to with the old feel, the family vibe from the owners and their family, the constant attention to detail and quality of their steaks. I guess good things have to come to an end. Sad to see the old owners go, but I m sorry to say slowly this place has lost its appeal, ambiance, quality and care.
