We've driven by for 20 years saying, "We should go there some day." Well, we finally went to celebrate our 27th anniversary. It was great! How many places could I have ordered veal porterhouse over a sausage stuffing? The portions are so large that many people leave with boxes. We felt like we were having dinner with a good friend. We'll be taking our friends and family soon!

My husband and I were really looking forward to dining here! The ambience was was really nice. The food was outstanding! However, as the evening wore on, I started noticing that one of the waitresses was constantly staring at my husband. She would walk by and make obvious eye contact with him. She actually stood in the kitchen area and "discussed" him with one of the other waitresses (we were seated with a view of the kitchen upstairs). She at one point came to our table to refill our drinks and did not even acknowledge me. The evening became more and more uncomfortable. We thorougly enjoyed the food, but I felt it was inappropriate for my husband to be stared at, especially in front of his wife. I feel very hesitant to patronize this establishment in the future.

This just became our special go-to restaurant. The food was wonderful, the flavors exquisite. My wife loved the red cabbage and the apple strudel. The service was attentive, friendly, and the portions generous. Overall, a warm, cheery place.

We'll be back!

I am a native German and have been in the US for 40+ years, during this time I have been to many German restaurants, most so so or bad - that was until we discoverd the Bavarian Chef. WHAT a treat. This is as good as it gets on this side of the big pond. Service has always been friendly and the food - Awesome, wunderbar, kudos to the chef! It is a two hour drive for us to get there - worth every minute of it! Herzlichen Dank!!!

Eating at this restaurant is always a great experience for us. It was highly recommended when we moved to C'ville almost a year ago. We consider it excellent, from the delicious food (large portions), service & nice atmosphere. Not one disappointment in the 7-8 times we have been there & definitely going again.

After hiking in the mountains for the day we arrived with a big hunger...we were greeted by a person who looked us up and down at the way we were dressed and then asked if we had a reservation, but of course we had none so we waited for 45 minutes while we sat and counted 4 open tables in the dinning areas...after 45 minutes a table opened up we were seated in the bar area when you first come in. We asked if we could be seated at one of the four open tables but were only given the table by the door in the bar area. For the next hour as it got later in the evening the dinning area got empty and two of the four tables that were empty never fill up, After giving it great thought we figured that because of the way we were dressed they would not seat us in the dinning room with all the well dressed, nose in the air, well to do people.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

The service was average and had to ask for my Ice Tea to be filled everytime...I don't get it you see the glass empty but you don't even ask...I had to ask...

We have been to this Restaurant a few times but because we were out to the wineries we were dressed a little better...those times we were treated very differently and served completely different.

4 adults, 2 small children, no reservation. Our grandchildren were given toys, crayons, etc. to occupy them, which make the luncheon wonderful for all. The best waiter service in years, the food and desserts were outstanding, even the bread and herb butter was excellent.

After living in Bavaria for 2 years, I was having German food withdraw symptoms. The Bavarian Chef is the most authentic German food this side of the Atlantic. Portion size explains the price - nobody leaves without a doggiebag. Red-pepper soup is worth the trip alone.

This is one of our favorite places and we have never had a bad meal. The prices are excellent and the food is abundant. You can special order a Baked Alaskan when you make your reservations. It is spectacular and scrumptious.

Our son and his fiancee took my wife and I to dinner for my birthday on December 8th; it was my fourth trip to the restaurant in 2007. This is one of the finest eating establishments on the east coast. Very fine food, wonderful delicious desserts. Warm, homey atmosphere with very good service. The food is indescribeably good, heavy Bavarian fare. The only distractor would be the closeness of the tables.

Service was lack luster, seems too many tables and not enough people to serve them all.
Soup came out warm (not hot) when asked what we wanted to drink we asked for the wine list..reply..just tell me what you want to drink..no we don't have Virginia Merlot when we asked for it..for 1 $31 entree you think you get the wine list without having to beg for it?
Overal the food was fine, but you kind of expect to have the soup come out hot and not with a cold skin starting to form opn your soup??
This has been our second "not so good" experience at the Bavarian Chef.
