A diner from Madison, CT
Jun 16, 2010
Our Family just returned from the Cafe Allegre where we endured a 2 hour ordeal of poor service, endless waiting, mediocre food and high prices. Topped off by being completely ignored by the management and ownership.
I cannot exaggerate how bad this experience was, for a total bill of 850 dollars for our party of 23 including a steep gratuity. I will just list all the problems with this meal and hope that you will not fall into the same trap.
Avoid this restaurant !!
Here is a partial list of what went wrong:
90 minutes from order to last entree, clearly the kitchen lost an order for 23 as Ken, our waiter, informed us after an hour that it would be 15 more minutes for our meals, and it turned into another 30 minutes.
Spilled water was never cleared or reset leaving one of the tables with a completely saturated table cloth for the entire dinner.
No butter with bread, despite repeated requests from many of our party.
Horrible service with 1 waiter for 23 people, reservation should never have been taken. 1 waiter delivered all salads and all food with no help or extra servers. Food was delivered as 2 plates at a time for 23 people.
Entire restaurant emptied before service was given
Entrée was served without silverware.
Waiter was constantly forced to move patrons because he couldn’t serve over the table.
Food was mediocre and not served hot, despite this quality, we were desperate for something to eat.
OWNER OR MANAGER NEVER CAME TO THE TABLE.
Drinks were not served for over an hour from first order for some members of the party.
Effects on us:
Small child of 8 was forced to wait for 90 minutes for food despite repeated requests from her mom for immediate order and some bread.
Most of the recent High School graduates ( we were celebrating a high school graduation ) graduates were forced to leave and return after changing for a school sponsored event beginning at 10:30 PM, and stuffed their food down in record time to make it out the door, why pay 35.00 for a meal that you have to eat in 5 minutes.
The extra 90 minutes of delay forced everyone to re-arrange rides an logistics.
A Celebratory dinner was turned into a stressful ugly affair,
NO OFFER OF remediation was made, and gratuity was still charged despite disastrous service.
This is the worst Dining experience I have ever had.
