just so everyone knows, the 13th avenue coffee shop is under NEW ownership.the former mean owners are gone. hopefully the 13th ave coffee house will turn back into a friendly place to want to go to, again and again.

My food was great!
I went for dinner and it was amazing. I was greeted shortly after sitting down and the staff were all very friendly to me.
My food arrived quickly. I had ordered a burrito and the portion was large for what I paid. I had to take most of it home!
I would definitely go back to this restaurant.

Wow! Am I glad to hear that I am not alone. On my brother's 30th birthday we went to the 13th Ave. Coffee Shop for lunch. Unfortunately it was closed so we went and got a drink. On our way back to our cars (parked by the 13th Ave Coffee Shop) we decided to have a sit at one of the benches and enjoy our sodas. That is until a man claiming to live above the shop came out and started yelling at myself, a mature 24 year old woman and my 30 year old brother. He was aggressive, rude and demeaning. He asked us to leave because we were on private property, we apologized for not knowing and quickly got up to leave. As we were walking out the man kept yelling at us and at one point got directly in my brother's face as though he was going to hit him. As we calmly walked away we informed the man that he had lost two customers. He rubbed his hands together in a taunting fashion and sneered, "Oooh too bad." I have not been back since, and have zero desire to return.

In response. I hear you.

I thought my experience here was weird too, but it turns out to be business as usual for the owner of the 13th Avenue coffee house to be rude and unwelcoming to diners.

I have a friend who told her friends from Calgary to meet her at the 13th Ave. Coffee House because her house was difficult to find for out-of-towners. When she got there she found them waiting outside in the cold because they had been kicked out by the owner. I hear stuff like this all the time. I admit that it is gossip and I don't know if it really happened, but I know that I really got kicked out the place (basically because I was studying). I have never been in a fight with a restaurant owner before or since.

A nice vegetarian whole food place has opened down the street. The Beat Root Cafe has better food for about 3 bucks less per dish, and the owner and servers are genuinely friendly and laid back. It is a summer only place, unfortunately.

The crushed grape and La Bodega are nice places if you eat meat, the Freehouse has a couple of decent options if you are a vegetarian. You can make a rice bowl at home for a fraction of the 10 dollars that 13th Avenue charges.

The owner of the 13th Avenue Coffee house seems to feel entitled to the business of Cathedral residents just because the location and building are hip. I know that the previous owners of the location were well liked, and I think the good will has carried over to the new owner, but from what I hear on the street I think that good-will has been used up.

I quite honestly don't see any reason to continue to support the 13th Avenue Coffee House.

Like I said before, if anyone wants to discuss this please feel free to email me.

Wow! I'm so glad to come across this site, as I too just had an extremely weird interaction with the owner of this place. It's quite helpful to know that mine was not such an unusual case....

I've been a happy and loyal customer for at least a couple of years, and was completely confused and hurt by this man's behaviour. Too bad, but I won't be back either.

I was a regular customer at 13th Avenue for a about a year until the owner was extremely rude to me one day for reasons unknown...having a bad day I guess. I decided not to go back. Email me if you want, I will tell you about it.

I have since talked with several other people in the city who have either fought with, or been thrown out by, the owner of the establishment. Weird.

The servers are really nice and the food is OK (maybe a little overpriced). But really, I can't give my money to a restaurant owner that doesn't respect paying customers. Go somewhere else for your veggie fix. Like most trendy things, this place is not nearly as cool as it looks.

I was basically thrown out by whom I believe to be the owner of the 13th Avenue Coffee House for reasons I do not fully understand. It left me feeling hurt, abused and thoroughly disrespected by a public establishment and therefore felt the need to warn others and share my experience. I wrote a letter to the owner seeking an explanation but have had no reply.

The incident happened during a local Arts Festival, which must be the busiest times of the year but I feel it is still no excuse for the rudeness that I experienced. I waited for an extended period in the large line-up at this restaurant to place a take-out order. After I placed my order I waited patiently and was eventually told by the member of staff who served me that a mistake was made and I would have to wait another five minutes. I told the member of staff that I would wait by the kitchen door as the area by the counter was quite congested. I then waited by the kitchen door for an extended period. Meanwhile people who came in well after me had already been served their food and some were almost completing their meal.

At one point the owner came out of the kitchen and asked if he could help me as I was looking through the open door to see if my food was being packaged yet. I calmly explained that I had been waiting quite a while for my order and he asked if I understood how busy they had been that day. I told him that I understood but it still seemed like I was waiting an abnormally long period for my order. He then obviously lost his patience and told me that he would “get me my money and then asked me to leave.” He went to the cash register, got some money and then handed it to me saying, “Good luck” as I left his establishment. There was no apology or explanation.

It was a slap in the face from a business I have been quite loyal to for the last four years. I understand that the restaurant is doing quite well and has expanded recently but this is still no excuse to treat customers so badly. Regina is still a small city and customer service is perhaps more important here than in larger cities. The world is a pretty small place as well.

The owner should also take note that a couple of my friends refuse to visit the 13th Avenue Coffee House as they have also felt disrespected and devalued by the staff. I have now joined them as I completely relate to their experience.
