Restaurant Description

Orinally built as a trading post, the Mississippi Belle has previously been used as a hotel, a courthouse and a church. The restaurant is home to a antiques from around the state. There are chandeliers from the Prescott Opera House, stained glass windows from St. Paul's Ryan Hotel and cranberry glass from Gretchen's Gift Shop, circa 1920. The menu features traditional Italian classics as well as steaks, seafood and chops.

As a previous reviewer had commented, we also were a bit concerned when heard that the Belle had been sold. Those concerns were unfounded. Four of us dined at the Belle two weekends ago. The coconut shrimp appetizer was an unexpected delight from such a restaurant, four huge shrimp subtly breaded in coconut with a sweet hot citrusy dipping sauce. I sampled our friends Chicken & Shrimp Lemono which was one of the evenings specials. It is served in a cream sauce with sundried tomatoes and fresh basil with what must be lemon zest. Excellent. As for me, I had another of the evenings specials Yellowfin Tuna with Green Mojo sauce. The flavors reminded me of Mexico but I was informed by our waitress that the sauces origins are actually Cuban. The tuna was perfectly prepared medium rare, moist and the mojo sauce brought out the best. The new chef seems to have expanded the menu, at least on the specials and the regular menu is the same as always.

All and all, a wonderful evening. Great food and still the best service in town.

We stopped going to the Belle when the previous owner berated his wait staff and now it has new owners and what a difference. The food is even better and they are having daily specials which include all sorts of foods from down along the banks of the Mississippi. I had the shrimp aribatta and whoa was it the best ever. I recommend EVERYONE going there. They will even take recommendations and make something not on the menu if they can. This is going to be the most popular restaurant very soon! The only suggestion I have is that they should make it bigger so we can have a better view of the river. Its romantic and the best food now. To the new owners: keep up the good work. It is our new favorite restaurant. Been there twice in the last month.

Best Italian restaurant since we dined at the Como in Buffalo, NY. You do know Frank is from Italy when you taste the great dishes he prepares (From Scratch). And you often get a charming visit from the Chef himself!

The service was excellent, but that's the only good thing I could say about the place? To start the lettuce in the salad was brown and warm. The portions of the main course were exceptionally small for any price, especially for what they charged. The dessert was acceptable, but nothing special. Overall, I wouldn't return to this restaraunt or recommend it to anyone I liked.

Looking for a place that has fine food, a quiet and relaxed atmosphere where you can have great service at a reasonable cost? Try the Mississippi Belle in Hastings...steaks, seafood, and an over-all great menu with outstanding soups.
