I've been going to Golden Wheel all of my life and have not had one problem. As far as the food, it's definitely the best in the area. I've tried many dishes from here, and haven't been disappointed with any. The pork fried rice is excellent. Also, the staff is great. Ron, the manager, is always very friendly. I introduced myself many years ago, and everytime I see him he greets me by my name. I'm sorry that whoever left the review for Ferndale had such a "terrible" experience. The fact that your food was soggy is your own fault. Most Chinese food restaurants DON'T separate sauces, and usually charge if you ask anyway. Try dining in, or at least double check before you place the order. I work in the restaurant business, and have noticed that the things people complain about are USUALLY either a) their own fault, or b) completely exaggerated. One thing I know is that people LOVE to complain. Anyway, I would definitely recommend Golden Wheel! Love that place! :)

Today, I ordered carry out from Golden Wheel for the first and last time. I called it in and my girlfriend picked it up. She came back with the wrong order. I went back myself to get the correct order: Large Almond Chicken Dinner, 2 Eggrolls, and a quart of Hot & Sour Soup. Everything I found in my bag when I came home was junk. The Almond chicken was in a sickening brown sauce that had soaked right through the breading on the chicken and was like a sponge wrapped around the small amount of chicken that was there at all. Any respectable chinese place would keep the chicken and the sauce in a seperate container. The Eggrolls were overdone and dark brown. They were also not hot. The soup was so salty and gross that I threw away the entire quart. I have gotten garbage chinese foos from 5 locations in this area. I can only think of 2 places near here that are good. Peking House in Royal Oak will be the best in the area hands down. The other is a carry out only joint called A Taste of the Orient on Coolidge Road just south of 11 mile in Oak Park. I hate that Golden Wheel for just ripping me off $16.50 for some garbage I cannot even eat. I would not shed a tear if it closed down.

We ordered a variety of food, and ALL of it was disappointing. The Hunan Beef, which we ordered at the hottest level of spicy, was not spicy at all and the vegetables were completely mushy. The Almond Chicken's breading was more like a breadcrumb paste clinging to the overly-dry chicken, and it's gravy was a salty, goopy sludge. The General's Chicken was the total dealbreaker!! The chicken itself was weirdly cruncy, and the sauce was SO sickenly sweet it might as well been molasses. Basically inedible. The fried rice was more like overboiled brown rice, and tasteless. The only decent part was the eggrolls, and they were nothing special! What a bummer!
