Discover Downtown Las Vegas

There's no place like Las Vegas
From the moment you step off an airplane, Las Vegas makes its intentions known. The slot machines clang away, cigarette smoke wafts through the air and wave after wave of giddy tourists stroll down the airport walkways as they head to the action. Welcome to Vegas. Neon lights. Resorts. Hotels. World-class entertainment. And, of course, gambling, lots of gambling. The action here is largely the same whether day or night. You'll see packed rooms as visitors try their luck at its famous casinos, including the Golden Nugget, Four Queens, Fremont Casino, and Plaza Hotel & Casino. But indoor activities aren't all that Vegas offers. Highly rated golf courses can be found in and around this action-filled city. Maybe you'd like to exercise to relieve some of that high-roller stress. You can enjoy large swimming pools at the many hotels and resorts. Tennis courts abound, and water sports are available at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and on the Colorado River. Horseback riding is also popular here, as is hiking in the area's canyons. Families now have more options in Vegas than in years past. Your vacation with the kids should include visits to the King Tut Museum, Las Vegas Natural History Museum, and Lied Discovery Children's Museum. Children also will enjoy the NASCAR Café & SPEED The Ride, Mirage Aquarium, GameWorks arcade, Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, and the Mirage White Tiger Exhibit. Other popular stops away from the casinos include the MGM Grand Lion Habitat, the waxworks exhibit of Madame Tussaud's Las Vegas, the Marjorie Barrick Museum, the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, and the Atomic Testing Museum. Professional sporting events here include the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Minor League Baseball's 51s, the Triple-A team of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
