My wife and I had a $10 gift certificate so when they brought us 2 teas we presented the certificate and the waitress said they did not accept it. This is CLEARLY the old bait and switch. We waited about 25 mins to be seated if they would have had it posted that they no longer accepted their own certi. we could have deceided then what we should do. I asked if there was anything wrong with the certi. and was told no they just stopped accepting them. Good luck on building a business this way. The $10 would have cost backwoods less han $5 and we would have had a $50 ticket and a $10 tip instead you had your other cust. watch walk out after waiting 25 min. for a table. No manager or anyone could explain whey they would not accept a valid certi. I will continue to press the issue untill someone can explain, The tea was good but the menu was very limted and not a good value the cust were tired including the hostess and I think it suited them fine.I just don't understand losing cash pay local customers ( maybe repeat if the product was good) instead we deceided to stand up to the old bait and switch and we left and went to city cafe where the value seemed better and the service and food are always good and who honors their own words by accepting a valid certificate. ( we did not have one then but we used one on our first visit a while back) I will recommend backwoods to our friens I will recommend they go somewhere else.I may be back with my cert. and present it at the end of meal and DARE you to not accept a valid certi. that you endorsed. YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING REALLY? yOU HAVE MY EMAIL ADDRESS PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH MY VERY VALID CERTI.

My husband and I wanted to try a different place for date night. The near empty dining room should have been our clue to how dinner would be. Service was ok, thanks to a waitress who wasn't ours for keeping our tea glass full. Food was mediocre at best. I had a ribeye, which is the only cut of steak they server. Since that is THE steak they serve I expected it to be spot on. I ordered it medium and parts of it came out medium-well and most was rare, as if pan seared only. Steak was cut uneven and the charcoal-esque taste was horrendous. The shrimp was oversalted and left a lot to be desired. My husband had the mango pineapple pork and it was at least edible, but nothing to write home about. The sides we had, broccoli, loaded mashed potatoes and stuffed zuccini, were overworked and just downright odd. The potatoes were too hot to eat and the broccoli was topped with rough chopped peppers, onions and shredded cheese. Once the topping was off the broccoli was the one thing I ate. The waitress offered to have the kitchen cook my steak more, but I had already had my fill. I know what happens to food that gets sent back in a restaurant where they think they are serving "the best". Now, had she offered another steak....maybe. Prices were ok for amount of food, but not for the quality of food served. Also, no salt or pepper on the table nor any offering of something for the steak if you like steak sauces or horseradish sauce. Tea was good.

A gem of a place located in Mt. Holly! Food that is plentiful, extremely delicious and a delightful place to enjoy it all.....iced tea or beer and wine....take your pick.....the food is so awesome that you can't imagine not going back for more....the prices are spot on and you certainly get a huge amount of excellent food for a reasonable price. Go ENJOY!

I am a pushover customer. Unless my food is raw, I will not complain and tip at the very least 10% (for mediocre service) because I know first hand what servers have to deal with and that they do not prepare the meal and bring it out to every table. Last nights experience was bad enough that I did not leave a tip for the first time in my life. The food was great quality and prepared well (if it were luke warm it would have been better, good thing we asked someone to go to the kitchen and get it because we'd still be waiting for it today if we had not) but our server was beyond slow. She was unresponsive. Never refilled drinks that she got wrong (how can you confuse water for tea-twice?),never brought us bread for our dip, even after asking 3 times, and waited 30 minutes to tell us our steak was unavailable (we had a hungry toddler. That is why we ordered the dip as an app in the first place).I let the drink problem slide because she was older and believe it or not- you need to be quick on your feet when waiting tables, but it was the worst service I have ever had! She was nice but should have been working the register....which the hostess/manager/I dont know what she was- was working on all night because of issues. We all have bad days/nights and I can deal with that but I was embarassed that I was the one who chose this place. It was a joke and a waste of money. The only person who tried to help us was another server, and they kept shaking their heads in amazement as they walked by other tables that had issues with their server as well. The manager never came to speak with us and when we got her attention she said "when it rains it pours" and that was it. WHAT?
