East Lansing Restaurant Guide

Sultans is wonderful. We dine at Sultans and regularly treat our out of town guests and visitors to their delicious food. Absolutely everyone we know, without exception raves about the food. The staff is always friendly and service is prompt. I have never been disappointed. Always consistently great!

By far some of the best Mediterranean food I have yet to encounter! They were great to us when I dined in - pregnant and in PJ's - just for the lentil soup. We've never had bad service and now that we live a few hours away we will drive back to E. Lansing just for Sultans! They are great to our one year old, I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!

As for the people who rated them low... Some people will never be happy!

The food is always delicious! We've tried just about everything on the menu and have never had a satisfying dinner or lunch meal. This is the most consistent place in town. I love the grape leaves, hummus, fresh bread, chicken sharma, all the salads - everything tastes so fresh. The guys that work here are always friendly and attentive.

My husband and I ordered the Shawarma Combo for Two. We opted for the vegetables, not the rice. The food was well prepared, especially the vegetables which weren't overcooked, nor were they raw. We were impressed with the serving size. We ate all we cold hold and then took enough home for lunch the next day. This was a great value and a delightful introduction to Mediterrean food.

I am middle eastern and this place is THE BEST middle eastern restaurant PERIOD, and trust me I have tried out quite a few. Their food is incredible, exceptionally fresh and AUTHENTIC! I no longer live in the area but every single time I go back to visit I eat at Sultan's.

Sultan's was wonderfully fresh, hot pita served free with your meal. Hummus is fantastic. Lentil soup is perfection, also included with the meal. The staff has always been extremely friendly and accomodating. I've never had bad service even when they're packed. Even the manager is running to keep people happy. There's always a ton of leftovers.

Never in all my life have I had to wait to be addressed in the service industry. I had gone to Sultan's FOUR TIMES; each of which resulted in leaving because no one approaced us to be served. Because my girlfriend begged to go back, I did one last time and finally (after about 6 minutes) we were helped. Not only did it take a while to get a seat when the restaurant was less than a 1/4 full, but the service was slow. The waiter did not seem to think we were important enough to take care of; but what can you expect when you can see in plain sight the cook on the phone as oppossed to cooking orders. The food was good, but unless it made me weak in the knees (which it most certainly did NOT)I would never go back there again! Even if given free meals for a year, I would rather pay at a different place than put up with their rude service and lack of caring for their potential new clientel.

Sultans charges gratuity of 18 % without informing the customers and when you ask why Sultans is charging then they talk very rudely and inform that they just do sometimes. What sort of answer is that. Does it mean that they see the person and then charge gratuity? When told that they should mention it in the menu then I was told that it will come in the menus later, then shouldn't we be charged the gratuity when they mention it in the menu?
I will never go here again because of all this malpractices and rude behavior.

We have eaten at TheSultan's Place at least four times and have enjoyed everything each time. The bread baked in the oven there is wonderful! The booths are perfect privacy. The wait staff are friendly and helpful but do not impinge on the dining experience - they do not come back unless you need them and that is perfect service.

A few of us tried the dinner for 4 and it was a great way to introduce Mediterranean food to a person in our group who had never tried it before.

All I could say was "WOW." It was soooo unbelievably good!!

Sultan's is the best place for traditional cuisine. I have never had a bad meal, the service is exceptional, and the fresh bread at dinner is outstanding.

If you want to eat Mediterranian - Sultan's is the place to go. The food is so delicious, yum, yum. Whenever I dine there, on my way back I am already thinking when will be comeback to eat there again. I just love it.

Sultans Place is the best, most authentic Middle Eastern cuisine restaurant in town. The food is cooked, spiced, and prepared the way it is in the Middle East. You never get an Americanized version; you get the real taste, and it's a delicious one! The hot, puffy pita bread served at dinner arrives at the table piping hot, and the aroma of that bread baking in the on-site brick oven wafts temptingly through out the restaurant. The roasting meats sizzle on their spits, ensuring a delicious meal filled with tender chunks as well as some crunchy flavorful bits. Children are welcome and easily accomodated, as it's a family restaurant. However, it's got plenty to offer adults alone: well-placed tables for conversation and even a semi-private section for parties and large groups. Service is superb! I never begrudge the tip because the waitstaff always does a marvelous job. Sultans Place caters also, so one can get this excellent food and service at graduations, wedding, and more. I give it a big thumbs up!

Sultans is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is excellant! No matter what you like or dislike you will love this place. When eating here is important to remember to try new things. The service is worthy of 4 stars. Never is there an empty glass or a lack of their incredible buns. The prices are a bit high but you will be full and bring home a great deal of yummy food. :)
