 From the very first time I ate at the Southland, in 1955, I have looked forward to the next opportunity I would have to eat there. I knew the original owners, Roper and McKay. Their barbeque was about as good as you can find anywhere. Mr. Roper's son and I were friends in high school, and we ate at his dad's place often. I now live over 200 miles away, and both Roper and McKay have passed the restaurant ownership on to a second generation. The barbeque was still delicious, as recent as August 11, 2007, my last visit to the Southland.
