We went to Da Mario on May 31st after reading the very complimentary review in the Vancouver Sun recently. Our experience was not nearly as good. When we entered the restaurant, the person behind the bar merely pointed to our table, instead of leading us to it (not a grievous error, but strike one). Mario substituted a cheaper wine (Sonora Ranch) for the bottle of Mission Hill cabernet we had ordered, joking that it cost him less but he would charge us the same (he did, so strike two). My companion's linguine & clams came with spaghetti instead of linguine (no apology when the difference was pointed out ... Mario thought it was funny and joked about it - it wasn't funny - strike three).

Seven of us just ate dinner at Da Mario and none of us will ever go back. The food was mediocre at best. The service was SLOW and they couldn't have cared less about us. The restaurant ambiance is old and tired.

I have dined at Da Mario's many times and have allways enjoyed my meals. The clams vongole is excellent and I absolutely love their ceasar salad. If you are in the mood for something a little spicy try the house special calabresa. The veal dishes are excellent. They have a limited wine list but it is good. You would pay a lot more if this restaurant was located in a more popular area. Go and enjoy my neighborhood favorite you will not be sorry.
