While I was in the Chapel Hill area visiting, I asked some friends where I could find good sushi. Two different parties answered simultaneously, "Kanki". I decided to try it and was not disappointed. Half of the restaurant serves as a hibachi-style Japanese steakhouse and the other as a sophisticated sushi bar. The decor was beautiful, our server sweet and attentive, and the food was wonderful. I even asked if the sushi chef would make a maki roll combination that I did not find on the menu. The waitress replied, "absolutely" and it came out delicious. Besides sushi, we tried tempura, miso soup, and the chicken fingers (also known as chicken katsu). It was all excellent. Finally, the restaurant cannot be classified as a children's restaurant (due to the upscale atmosphere and food style) yet they were very wonderful with the two well-behaved small children we brought.

It's not easy to find a really good Mom 'n Pop shop in the Triangle Area. JJFish and Chicken serves generous portions of homemade food for a fair price. The fish is awesome and the chicken nuggents/tenders are homemade (not parts)
