The Thistle was a weekly tradition with our family every Friday or Saturday for dinner. The fish and chips were always delicious. The very best in Kearney! Sure miss their suppers but go back every time we make a trip to New Jersey.

This is definitley the place to go for fish and chips. It's small interior gives it a very homey feeling and there is always service with a smile. It is family owned and run which it makes it even better. The secret batter recipe gives the fish a great flair. There isn't only fish either, they have a variety of other dishes that inclue pasta, meat pies etc. You should give this place a try, you won't regret it.

my family use to own the first fish and chip shop in kearny (thompson's). i believe it opended in 1939 or sooner......my dad sold the business in 1942 or 1943 not sure. my mom's sister many years later opened the thistle and the family still own it today. they r the best in kearny
HI I USED TO GO TO THE THISTLE IN THE LATE 50S AND EARLY 60S. WAS A GREAT PLACE. USED TO GO TO THOMPSON FISH AND CHIPS IN LATE 40S. HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF ALL THE KEARNY FISH AND CHIP SHOPS.

I am from Kearny and now live in CA. I still enjoy the fish and chip dinner and the Thistle is as good as any. It's little, and homey but that's ok with a small town guy like me. My memories of Thompson's fish and chips about 60 years ago are good. Not too happy with the price now though.
