I love getting to go to the levee house cafe to eat, the river setting is so nice and the food is great, one thing i miss is the homemade pies, the desserts they have are great but the homemade pies topped it off, overall i would recomend people stopping by and trying it out

Our experience here was atrocious! We certainly expected more for the outrageous prices than coffee stained paper menus and limited selection. Half the things we tried to order, they were out of. The food tasted old. My son was ill afterward and couldn't keep down his food long enough to make it home. The salad dressing was spoiled and there was visible mold on the overpriced pizza. Throughout the entire disgusting meal, the owner sat in the corner yucking it up with his high society friends and the waitress only appeared at our table a total of three times. I could not have been more disappointed.

We took our daughter and son-in-law who were visiting from Kansas. When we ordered they were out of green beans (a vegetable of the day) and Prime Rib which is the Thurs special (and it was Thursday). My daughter got the last Filet available. We got there at 5:30, only the second dinner customers there. Too early to be out of anything. The food was good but not what we expected from the prices and the menu descriptions (which were just paper copies and old). As more customers arrived, our waitress took longer to take care of our table and we had to wait for bread, drink refills and the check, which was hand written on a little piece of paper. All this while the owner sat and had dinner with friends. While it was an OK experience, I would not recommend it to anyone. My husband and I have owned a restaurant and there were things that could make it more appealing.
We had been there a few year ago and nothing had changed. I ordered Carbanara and after living in Italy for 10 years, I had never tasted anything like it, it was not Italian.Not sure where they got the recipe.
It could be a great place to go but it needs some attention from the owners. The cafe is on the river with a great view and much history. Too bad the inside did not match the outside.

The Levee House Cafe isn't for food snobs. While the menu is imaginative and varied, the presentation is nice, and the food is tasty, you can still probably find something to complain about if you want to (e.g. one of my steamed carrot slices was cold). However, when taken all together (quality, ambiance, price, service), it's hard to beat. I will recommend it to my friends and plan to go back.

I absolutely love the Levee House. Having moved to the Mid-Ohio Valley from San Diego, I was searching for dining experience that was unique. The Levee House has become that place. The historical atmosphere alone makes for a great dining experience. The food is great and the desserts even better. The price is very reasonable.

My Husband and I found this place to be a very calming and relaxing place to dine. The staff was great and food exceptional. The bits of grass growing in the cracks of the walkway,and the word "Whiskey" on the outside wall facing the river were a charming reminder of the age and history of the area and the building that now houses the Levee house cafe'. I would not change a thing! The deserts were beautifully prepared as far as I am concerned, and even the most renowned restaurants have staff and owners that may have a bad day once in a while. But as for my husband and myself, we will be returning there again and again each time we visit the area. WTG Levee House!

A charming setting with good food and friendly, perceptive staff...definitely my most memorable dining experience in Ohio ever. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

The Levee Cafe was a disappointment, clearly resting on reputation instead of optimizing the location - along the banks of the Ohio River. There are weeds growing in along the pavement, and the patio leading to the trolley (conveniently under the same ownership) is an overgrown invitation to mosquitos. I was only there for dessert, and glad I had not wasted an entire meal there. I was quite disappointed with a creme brule that had clearly been frozen, destroying the delicate texture that IS creme brule. This was only made worse by the substitution - the soggy crust and equally eroded custard of a lemon pie - also suffering from "weathering" in a freezer. To make matters worse, during this mid-afternoon stop at the Levee Cafe, disgruntled employees bad-mouthed their employer and he criticized them in a demeaning manner that clearly revealed why his staff were upset with him.

My wife and I, from Athens, Ohio, decided to try someplace new to us for our anniversary. The Levee House Cafe was recommended by friends and we were delighted with our experience. The food, from the appetizer to dessert and coffee, were excellent. My entree was salmon with a Jack Daniels sauce with onions. It was exquisite. Fish is not at the top of my favorite food list but I would eagerly have this one again.
The only meal that I've had that surpassed my dinner tonight was at Harry Karry's in Chicago and that one was much more expensive.
We agreed that we would gladly undergo the one hour drive to Marietta again to dine at the Levee House Cafe. In fact, we intend to do it in March when we have guests from Chicago. 1/31/05

The Levee House overlooks the beautiful Ohio River and was a great place to celebrate my wife's birthday with friends and family from North Carolina, West Virginia, Masachusetts, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. This restaurant had great food and service - not fast food - at a reasonable price for the exceptional quality. We will definitely return this next holiday season!
