I have been to 231 Ellsworth many times, and I have to say that it is my favorite restaurant for fine dinning. Do yourself a treat and order the five course tasting menu with the wine paring. You will not find a better experience anywhere! If one of the items is not really what you want, just ask an...

Over the years, we've eaten at 231 Ellsworth on numerous occasions, sometimes for special events, but just as many times, if not more, simply because it's good. Having dined there over the last couple of decades, we are especially happy with the offerings of the current chef, Tim Hilt. He and his ki...

i used to go here with my grandmother way way back in the day and the food was very good (and i was a picky lil girl!!) by the way this was when thrifty's and round table were still around!!
Hotaru is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the area! What I love about Hotaru is that you can get a variety of types of food there--bento boxes, sushi, noodles, and rice dishes. I really enjoy getting their Udon Special (#1), which allows you to get udon or soba, California rolls or some...
Visited the restaurant with my wife and was highly disgusted with the food. First, the hamachi (yellow tail) was extremely old and was changing a color. Second, food was extremely salty. The chef in the kitchen was arguing with one of the server and made everybody uncomfortable. Server was extre...
Have eaten here many times and always had good food and friendly service. A bit noisy and crowded as to ambience, but keep going back because food is good and service is quick.
I was at the restaurant last Saturday with a party of 8 people. Everyone was pleased with their dinner order. The food was served hot. I eat there frequently and have always enjoyed both the meal and the service.
Their service is poor and the prices are very high.
We are eating and this woman who reminds of a warden keeps on walking and stopping at our table. Thoroughly annoyed with this, I asked her if anything was wrong. She asked me if there was something wrong with my dessert. I hadn't finished it because I was full. I asked her to please leave us alone. ...

My girlfriend and I went to TGIF in San Mateo today. We sat at the bar for happy hour. Even There were two bartenders and it was not busy at all. Even the bar manager was there. I left to wash my hands and returned to find that my girlfriend still had not been served, or even spoken to by a barten...

As a mother of two I really look forward to family night out when I don't have to cook. This was the wrong place! Bread was stale and as tough as a leather shoe. All food (meat, seafood, veggies) are brought out raw and waitress brings out a pot of hot oil and tells you the cooking time of each. The...

New dark, pendent light-illuminated interior, part of San Mateo Cal- Trains station complex. When we asked hostess for a seat by window, we were informed that all seating is assigned when reservations are made--this did not set a positive tone. We were seated in a 2 person windowless booth, with a s...
Went here for a family dinner and had a wonderful meal. The staff is friendly and the food was the best I have had outside of downtown San Francisco. I usually won't eat chinese unless it's at my favorite place in the city, but now when I can't get to the city I will go to Uncle Chens. ***Chinese ...
I'm a local who has eaten at the restaurant several times and has seen the restaurant grow from an unknown facility to a well-established dining room. Seamless transition of quality and experience from reknowned Chef Gary Danko to Executive Chef Scott Giambastiani. Extensive and thought-out winelist...
