Excellant food, and good prices. One of the best burgers around, made your way, at only $7.00 with fries. Nice outside dining with plenty of shade.

Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips - Retail Reviews

I visited Treachers when over from the UK.

Now you guys in the US do some great food - but this wasn't it. The fish is NOTHING like the traditional UK food that is claims to be - nor are the 'chips'.

They claim to have purchased the original recipe from the 'first' fish and chip shop in the UK (Malin's - founded in the 1860s). This again is a just wrong, fish and chips have been served in the UK for decades before Malin's were even founded (mentioned by Charles Dickens in the 1830's - for example)

So what was wrong:
The batter was too crispy to be authentic, there was insufficient 'soft' batter adjacent to the fish. The chips were far too crispy, more like 'fries' - chips should still have some bend in them to be authentic. I read somewhere that they stopped using Cod and replaced it with pollock - not sure if this is still the case, but it tasted like it.

I know some will probably prefer their food this way - if so fine, but to claim it is 'UK' and fly it under the UK Flag is a bit off.

It would be like a UK chain producing bad burgers (which we do)and claiming they are based on the original authentic US recipe for the Big Mac (which we don't)

Just wanted to make a comment on what the other guy said about the cheese sauce. First of all, the cheese sauce wasn't on the menu to be used for chips. I was the second ingredient on the fish sandwich along with tartar sauce and a soft roll. The cheese sauce and chips was a back room invention that we who owned and worked serving up the best Fish n Chips started in the kitchen. Outsiders were fobidden. Anyway, We will be coming to a neighborhood near you soon with an even better batter dipped Fish n Chips. Watch for the opening soon.

Haven't been to an Arthur Treacher's in probably over 20 years. Now I know why. It will probably be another 20, ( if there still in business ), before I go back again. I recently went to the Arthur Treacher's on West 130th street in Parma. One of their best sellers ever was their chips, (fries), with cheddar cheese sauce. They no longer have the cheese sauce, ( major ) dissappointment the girl looked at me like I was from outer space when I asked of the cheese sauce and the Manager did a double take to as to why I would even be asking such a thing. Also gone is the Malt Vinegar of yesterday that was unique to Treacher's and replaced by Heinz. The biggest disgrace of all and if you want the biggest laugh and amusement, order a small coke. Heheheheheheeee how embarassingly small. I looked at my friend and we busted out laughing. Honestly I never saw a cup ever that small. Two sips and your done and they charge you 89 cents + 7 cents sales tax. 96 cents for a SIP OF COKE!! I can safely say I will not be returning.

Every once in a while I need a fried fish fix and it doesn't get much better than Arthur Treachers. The staff was very friendly and the food was hot and tasty.
