Good Food and Good Service We went at a time when there were not many people around and the food and service were great. I totally recommend Tandoori Platter for starters and the garlic nan. I haven't had such a juicy and luscious tandoori dish in my life. Just Yummy!! Wide Variety of Nans to try from. For main course we kept it simple and had Chicken Tikka Masala - which is their version of butter chicken. It was authentic and to taste. Over all I love the food and Service. Great place to go if you are around Union Square.

I was here for a work event and was very impressed by the whole operation. The staff was smooth and efficient and the food was excellent. They managed to move 100 people through the buffet line quickly and everyone was happy. The restaurant has wifi, which worked out well for us. They also do in-office catering, which I think we'll look into next time.

A local favorite of mine, always very professional service and GREAT food. I like to take guests here for dinner - good variety and excellent quality. Atmosphere is casual but service is always very elegant. Decor is comfortable, clean, and attractive. Lunch tends to rather quiet, so if you want to focus on the food and your companions go then. Evenings are mix of dates, couples and families. Their hot chai tea is our family's favorite. Takeout service is a real treat. It's always more than we can eat at one sitting and very carefully packed to travel well without spilling. Tandoori meats are always well prepared, juicy and bursting with flavor. Extensive vegetarian menu also attracts it's own following.

"What a stellar dining experience! Our waiter was spot on in his recommendations, the chili cheese pakoras were divine and so addictive with just the right accompaniments. They have special house cocktails which we would highly recommend the mango martini, as well as the Nimbu Pani. The Indian food was so delicious, the best I've had. This would be a can't miss restaurant on any visit to the city."

We went to dinner here on the recommendation of the concierge at the Four Seasons. We told her that we wanted some good food, but not something we could find in our hometown. She suggested New Delhi and definitely hit the mark. The menu was wonderful and I wish we could have tried everything on it.

Very authentic Indian food that tastes great without being too expensive. The wait service was very accommodating; two of us showed up at 6:15pm, and we ended up waiting over an hour for our third guests. The restaurant had no issue with sitting us while we wait for the late party on a Thursday night. A short walk from the Muni is a big plus as well.

I will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great Indian food.

My wife and I are constantly on the look out for great Indian food! Having tried 5 or 6 places in San Jose and wider Bay Area with little satisfaction, we finally came across New Delhi! What a great meal! The restaurant is definitely more modern and upbeat. The decor is contemporary. The food was absolutely fabulous! We over ordered from the menu because we wanted to try so many different items. The only negative was that service was a little slow. It was a very busy at the time though. We highly recommend this restaurant!

I went with my parents New Delhi over the weekend. It was my dad's first visit. He said it was better than his favorite restaurants, which had long been his number one. The food was incredible. The service was great. The waiter was nice and was helpful. Plus, he gave us free desserts. Oh, and be sure to try the Mango Lassi. It is really good. I've been there three times. New Delhi Restaurant is great!

New Delhi Restaurant is impeccable. The restaurant is much larger inside then it seems from the entrance. The atmosphere is impressive with great attention to detail. The food was amazing! The tandoori platter was perfectly cooked and the curries we ordered was out of this world! I went to New Delhi for a work related event and am looking forward to returning for a romantic night out with my husband! I have already recommended it to several of my clients.

I went there on the rec of a friend of mine and was not disappointed. The naan was fresh and hot, the chutney was tangy and flavorful. I had the rogan josh, which was hot enough to make me feel like they chefs weren't pulling any punches, but still very tasty. (Hot for hot's sake is a real peeve of mine.) My vegetarian girlfriend was thrilled with her birayni and eggplant and we both enjoyed a lychee martini. Check this place out, whether you choose to share it with others is entirely up to you.

Elegant and relaxing atmosphere, excellent presentation. Food was superb, especially the bay special soup - a very light mixed seafood soup in a cream broth. The portions were more than sufficient and seasoned perfectly which is not an easy feat with Indian food. I had the chicken Biryani which looked like palella. It was moist, flavorful and filling. Great for a romantic date.

I love New Delhi. The food is always so tasty and fresh. I highly recommend trying the bay special soup. I have never had anything like it anywhere else, and it is one of the tastiest soups I have ever had. The service is very good -- efficient and friendly, and they will help you make a decision and give lots of advice if you are a newcomer to North Indian cuisine.

I have been to New Delhi Restaurant a few times, it is always delicious. We sat in the bar last time, due to the crowd in the dining room. The bar is comfortable and we were seated right away and served very quickly. The chicken korma is my favorite.

I lunched at New Delhi last week and was extremely pleased. I was able to find ample options for my appetizer (tandoori sampler), entree (a lamb dish), and dessert (mango ice cream). The service was really fantastic. Our server brought me a second chai tea before I had even finished half of my first! I thought that the meat was extremely tender and delicious, the presentation was beautiful, and the ambiance was really pleasant. As for portions -- I filled up on half of my lamb, and was given extra naan and rice to accompany my leftovers at home.

I am staying on business at a hotel nearby. I called in a to-go order. I ordered the Complete Non-Vegetarian Dinner - everything was incredible on this meal. They had the food wrapped very well for me transport back to the hotel. Included even dinnerware and plastic utensils for me. Very nice staff. Best service I have had anywhere in years. Great food as well. All was yummy!

My friend and I were at New Delhi Restaurant on a Saturday night. We didn't have reservations and it was busy. It didn't take too long before we got a table and was seated though. We had the chili cheese pakoras for appetizers. It's amazing how much they give you. We also ordered the mango lassi, which is my top choice to replace water to drink. If you want to hide from the city, this is a great place to do it. Once you're inside, it's like the whole world melts away. I don't know much about Indian food, but I would definitely try this one again. The food is very good and the people are so friendly. Oh and the wine goes great with the food. Good selection.

What a lovely restaurant. My husband and I went there on a weeknight and were treated so well by the staff, it was as if we were the only people in the place (which was definitely not the case). We started off with a cocktail in the bar - the mango mojito is worth the trip all by itself - before sitting down to dinner. It's been awhile since we've had really good Indian food and this certainly hit the spot. Everything was spiced perfectly and the nan bread was obviously baked fresh on the spot. If you're looking for really good authentic Indian, hie yourself into New Delhi, you will not be disappointed.

I have always been disappointed by the lack of high-end Indian food in San Francisco. The only choice we used to have were the walk-in, dine and run, casual type places and I don't think they are as good as the restaurants in LA and Chicago. Last week my family went to New Delhi Restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised! The food tasted wonderful, the service was great, and price was even better! (I even recognized the person who took our order was the owner.) Apparently they've been in business for over 20 years, but their patrons were keeping them a secret. I can certainly see why! I will definitely go there from now on for our Indian food craves.

The whole experience from the beginning to the end of the evening was amazing. The staff was lively and made our stay the best that we had in San Francisco ever. We regret finding out about the place on our last day in this city but we will be back on our next trip and make our first stop. Chef Ranjan came around and greeted us as we got the check and spoke a little about his cooking. We were treated like rock stars. The city was a bit cold but New Delhi Restaurant more than made up for it with its staff and warm and welcoming decor. This place should be a MUST on everyone's restaurant list. And the host with the Indian accent brings a sexiness to the whole place.

I never thought I liked Indian food. The flavors were always so overwhelming and much to "busy" for my poor American palate. Then some friends took me to New Delhi. Apparently I've been eating bad Indian food my entire life. This place rocks! The Chicken Korma is just this side of addictive and the nan bread is amazing: warm, soft, absorbent for all that lovely sauce. I had a mango lassi from the bar and left feeling better than I had in ages. Go to New Delhi Restaurant, let Ranjan fuss over you and thank me later.

A group of us dined at New Delhi Restaurant last night and everyone at our table said it was the best Indian food they've had in San Francisco. This was my 2nd visit to New Delhi and the food, atmosphere and service blew me away. Our server anticipated our every need and explained all of the signature dishes. We started with the tandoori platter, bari pakoras, and samosas. All were flavorful and disappeared within minutes. For entrees we had the Chicken Korma which was perfectly succulent and the sauce was outstanding. The Saffron Lamb which was so tender it could be cut with a fork. The BBQ Chicken was juicy and delicious. For dessert, the rice pudding and gulab jamun were great. We went with mango martinis to start and let the chef choose the wines with the meal. New Delhi is the perfect place for a intimate date or large group. Our biggest compliments to the chef.

Ok my husband and I arrived there late on a Tuesday night. We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. THATS how crowded this place is. But we didn't care. We love Indian food and were excited to try something new. Plus we showed up during one of two (!) happy hours, so were able to enjoy some free appetizers in the bar while we waited. There were tons of people there (as I said) but the atmosphere was nice enough. The naan bread was really good- piping hot and just the right amount of crisp. We got the entrées level 4 spicy (out of 5) and they were the perfect level of punch. Really not unreasonably priced for ethnic food. All in all we will be returning. I'd just recommend hitting an off time though to avoid the crowds.

We travel to San Francsco two or three times a year and always try to work in a visit to New Delhi Restaurant. Our most recent visit was during the first part of Double Happy Hour and we were happy as could be.

The food here is robust with deep Indian flavors and we yearn for the taste of New Delhi Restaurant whenever we frequent unknown Indian food places in other cities.

So if Indian food is to your liking, don't pass up a chance to try this one out. Service is spectacular, too.

I'd read some harsh reviews of New Delhi Restaurant, so I was ready to pounce if something went wrong with my husband's birthday dinner. I have absolutely no complaints! We had a great celebratory meal, great service and an excellent time out!
We arrived early in order to have a drink in the bar.The juke box was playing while I sipped on one of their martini specials, a Mango Martini. We were seated promptly when our reservation was ready. New Delhi isn't a tradition red-orange-gold Indian place. The dining room is spacious and feels like eating in the home of a very wealthy friend. Lots of white table clothes, big art work and marble. And for being right downtown, it's surprising quiet.
The menu is classic north India with a few twists on tradition. My chicken korma was sweet, creamy and delicious. My husband had the Saag Chicken, which is roasted chicken served with creamed spinach - surprisingly spicy and very good. We split the rice, nan bread and a side of Yellow Dal Tarka. Everything was wonderful and we ended the evening with a trio of house made ice creams: Mango, pistachio and something that was almost strawberry, but not.
The prices are upscale, but the value is good for the quality of the food and service. We'll definitely be back and we'll bring a crowd, there's quite a few drinks and appetizers I still want to taste.

New Delhi Restaurant is my favorite weekday lunch spot. Parking is a little difficult, as it's in a popular area, but the food is well worth it. Rich sauces and spices, beef and chicken, peppers and vegetables, all so amazing to the palate. There is are two happy hours with drink specials and appetizers every day, so my friends can stop by for a nibble and a glass of something good after work. Joe the bartender makes a great mango mojita. New Delhi offers rich, authentic Indian flavor for a modest price in a lovely upscale setting. It's a perfect respite from your hectic workday!

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at New Delhi Restaurant on Friday, September 14. We opted for appetizers and entrees and our meal ran about $35 per person. The food was very, very good--fresh, high quality ingredients, carefully prepared with an eye toward innovation (without becoming outlandish). Chicken korma and baigan masala were outstanding, as was the tandoori platter and shrimp chowder to start the meal. The space is elegant and this is the only menu I've ever seen which gives historical details about the dishes and spices, the staff were also friendly and accessible. Overall, a lovely experience--give it a try! (If you're going right at dinner, make a reservation; the place was packed by 7:15.)

This place lives on a rep it established 20 years ago, when there were hardly any Indian restaurants around. Things have changed though, fortunately, and the result is that I no longer have to suffer through mediocre food, high prices (for the quality), and subpar service. I can now get this level of quality for far less around town... :)
