I went to Guadalajara with my friend, Michael, on a rather busy Saturday night. I was greeted inside with a friendly smile and hello. The friendly hostess seated us promptly and she handed both of us our menus. As soon as the hostess walks away, a gentleman places a basket of tortilla chips along a bowl of salsa and a bowl of refried beans. The salsa isn’t bad, just enough spice, but I love the refried bean dip. Every time I come to Guadalajara I have to make sure I don’t fill myself up on the chips and dip. Shortly after we received our chips and dip our waitress came to take our drink order and returns quickly with our drinks. Although the restaurant is busy, all the staff has pleasant smiles and they are working smoothly and efficiently with each other.
Opening up the menu, I found a large assortment of quality Mexican cuisine. There were tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. In picking one of the four choices you also are able to choose the type of meat from beef to chicken. They also offer many other delicious foods from other favorites such as fajitas. They even offer dessert! Sopapillas and fried ice cream are just two of the dessert choices they offer. The variety is amazing and the combinations are endless. However the food was a bit more expensive then I remember.
The waitress stayed on top of refilling our drinks. They were never emptied without another drink waiting or her being two steps away from refilling it. A different waitress brought our food to us in a timely manner and it was very hot. The plates were very large. There was so much food on my plate that I couldn’t even see the bottom. It was my usual order of enchiladas de espinaca (spinach enchiladas), which comes with Mexican rice, black beans, and some cabbage. The enchiladas are a mix of cooked spinach, onions, and tomatoes in a creamy sauce that is wrapped in a flour tortilla. The enchiladas are smothered in a delicious green sauce and topped with some shredded cheese. This dish is by far my favorite. Although I was extremely pleased with my meal, Michael wasn’t as happy. He ordered the chipotle beef enchiladas, which come with rice and refried beans. They enchiladas themselves were extremely tiny, and the chipotle sauce could have been hotter. That dish is absolutely not worth the $10 they charged for it.
As soon as we start eating our waitress comes to our table, making sure that everything was ok and seeing if we needed anything else. Our waitress was outstanding. Throughout our meal I could see or waitress peeking at our table as she walked by, making sure that everything was ok and always showing up at the right moment, whether it was to refill drinks or to clear our plates from the table. Although our waitress kept a close eye on us she didn’t bother us in anyway.
One of the qualities that I enjoy about Guadalajara is their wonderful background music. I could hear the nice, joyous sounds of a mariachi band. A tuba could be heard playing a polka bass line. On top of the tuba was the sound of an accordion or a guitar creating the chord structure and trumpets playing an energetic melody. Lastly there was a lovely Spanish dialogue that seduced all who listened to it. The music definitely adds an important part to anyone’s experience at this restaurant.
I had a great experience at Guadalajara. The staff was friendly, quick, and efficient. The service we received there was amazing, I couldn’t have asked for better service. We were out of the restaurant in less than an hour! They offer a wide selection of dishes to choose from, there is something for everyone. The food isn’t bad; I have had better Mexican food, but not often. The background music adds to the dining experience, giving the sensation that I am truly in Mexico! Overall I had a great experience dinning at Guadalajara.
