I was born and raised in Truro, left, then returned and can say based on several trips to Damascus over the years and expecially within the last few years that it is one of the top three restaurants in Truro, and have never encountered bad service there. On my most recent trip I ordered a Super Donair and we had Garlic Fingers as an appetizer. My girlfriend ordered the French onion soup. She is a bit of a French onion soup officianado and said it was very good. The garlic fingers as always were quite tastey and not overcooked as many places do. It is often still melty when ordered at Damascus. Service was attentive and polite. Keep in mind this place is more a pizza joint then a fine dining restaurant. Thats where their roots are and thats what they specialize in. Although to their credit they have a nice combination of both. I can say they easily have the best donairs in NS...I have lived in Halifax and tried donairs in the HRM, including Sackville, but the ones at Damascus are the best in the province. Their donair sauce never tastes like flour was added to create more sauce as I suspect some places do. You know when you get a bad donair sauce and it is too sour, but not vinigar sour...more like a sour cream sour. Thats because that restaurant is adding something to the sauce that shouldnt be their to extend it. The meat never seems too rubbery either at Damascus as some places in the HRM are, as if there was too much pork in the meat. Now i am not here to defend any town or restaurant really, but I thought that i should put my two cents in as I have been there more than once.

We had horrible service. My husband and I ordered his came out first, I'm still waiting. He is half way through and they tell me they burnt mine and they are re-cooking it. We didn't go out eat to take turns watching each other eat. They offered to take 10% off. I said fine. Half way through waiting for mine we got and left. I wasn't going to give them more money. I ended up eating MacDonalds at home.
