We went to Barnacle Bills on 9/14/09...my husband ordered the mahi grilled platter w/ baked potato and cucumber salad for sides. I ordered the fried flounder sandwich w/ fries for side. We both ordered Caesar salads.
THAT IS WHAT WE ORDERED...HERE IS WHAT WE RECEIVED:
My husband received a leathery overcooked fish square that was utterly flavorless and definitely NOT fresh fish...the cucumbers were so tart, they tasted like a lemon squeeze w/ old bay seasoning mixed in....potato was never touched...
My sandwich was NOT flounder, it was catfish! My husband is an avid fisherman and we know what flounder looks like AND tastes like...this was flavorless catfish...when we brought this to the waitress attention, she flat said "nope, it's flounder" and walked away....catfish was their "special" of the day, so maybe they were pawning off what they had on supposed dumb tourists, I don't know, but she refused to make it right....the entire meal was absolutely terrible....
TO MAKE THINGS MUCH WORSE:
An apparant regular to this restraunt was seated directly behind us and we over heard him ask the waitress (mid meal unfortunately) why they had been written up by the board recently in the newspaper....she joked and said it was because their bowls were bent...well I'm sorry, but you don't get citations for having a bent bowl in the kitchen...bottom line, our lunch costs $30.74 and it was a terrible experience---we both felt very sick afterwards and we will NEVER go back.

Since the other reviews are several years old I can only assume the restaurant has done a complete turnaround because my family loved it. I didn't want to go there because I assumed it was a family-type, fried-seafood place. And it was. But it was GREAT. It was very clean, the tables were far apart and roomy, our waiter and the service he gave us were excellent. The fried shrimp & oysters were very good and the fried clams were tender. The corn and hushpuppies weren't very good but the green beans were exceptionally good. We were very pleased with our dining experience.

I had read other reviews and decided to try. I had a bad feeling before I walked in the door, but decided to try anyway. Dirty outside, usually means dirty inside and this was the case. I was very disappointed with the choices for side items (buttered corn- out of a can, mandarin oranges - out of a can, a baked potato that was rotten in the middle, peach halves- out of a can) I could go on, but I will never go back. Kids menu was a little pricey. My kids had a better selection and it was less expensive at Outback. Don't waste your money.

After waiting 100 minutes to be seated (we were originally told 30 to 40 minutes untill a table would be ready and then kept getting told only twenty more minutes untill we were finally seated) we then waited 45 minutes to get our food. One individuals order was completly wrong, and the menu failed to mention green peppers in the crab cakes so another individual in our party had an allergic reaction causing intestinal discomfort. The lighting was too dim in some places and far too flourescently bright in others. The noise level was also to high, particularly the music was uncomfortablly loud. Although some people in the party were at least somewhat pleased with their meal others were not. The waiter was fairly good though at insurring we all had plenty to drink and was friendly, so the service was not entirely dismal. Over all however I do not plan on eating at this establishment ever again or recomending to others.

I really hate to be ignored, but that's what happened at first...we were seated and then nothing happened. However...once we got our food, it was good and plentiful. This isn't a tourist place...this is one that the locals patronize.
