The City of Poughkeepsie has always been very fortunate to have a great selection of good restaurants to eat in. However, the addition of Amici's on Main Street, right next to the renovated train station, has improved the selection 10-fold. Whether you want to share an appetizer or pizza at the bar and watch the game or sit down to a first class dinner in the dining room, you can do it at Amici's. The diverse menu will please any and all appetites and the friendly service will keep you coming back again and again. Do not miss an opportunity to stop in for a quick bite, a leisurely dinner or sign up for one of their monthly Interactive dinners. Even though we no longer live in the Poughkeepsie area, Amici's is on our list every time we visit Dutchess County.

The serving size was great, food was delicious, great presentation-a little cold but delicious. Service was a little slow went on lunch break and got back late but anything good is worth waiting for. The ambiance is fantastic and the prices was definitely worth every morsel. I would definitely go again but most likely after work.

We had a great dining experience in our recent visit to the Poughkeepsie area - Amici's Restaurant down near the Hudson River. The food was some of the best that I've had in a long time -- and the prices were very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food. I'd highly recommend it!

Amici's is located in Dooley Square at the Pok train station. I work in the building, and have visited the restaurant frequently as both a take-out and dine-in customer. The decor is great - warm russet and gold tones evoke a Tuscan feel. And you certainly get your money's worth when ordering a slice to go - they're huge.(I always ask them to cut it in half.)
So why only a 3? In a word, inconsistancy in food quality and service. What you get and how/when you get it depends on who's working. It seems a lot of the crew there are college students more interested in socializing then culinary excellence. For example: the Napolitan personal pizza ("sausage and broccoli rabe with garlic and oil crust") was out of this world the first time I ordered it. Since then, I've gotten something not even close to the menu description: red sauce, globs of mozzarella, and raw broccoli florets (not the same as rabe, kids, and what happened to the garlic and oil?). At least they did get the sausage right and the crust was good. The crispy calamari with two sauces can be outstanding, or rubbery and undercooked (and without sauces) as it was the last time I ordered it.
Amici's has a lot of potential, but needs to educate or change some of its staff if it wants to draw crowds. When it changed owners last year, I was hopeful there'd be change, but alas, it didn't happen. As for me, I've given up bringing clients there for lunch, although I'm willing to take a chance on a slice for myself now and again. Instead, we talk business over at Mahoney's or Akari sushi, both of which have excellent service and food.

Outstanding food; experience chef from the Culinary Institute provides a different set of specials each week - we keep going back; haven't been disappointed yet. Nice location down by the river.
